What fashion trends do you believe in for 2016?
It has been a trend, especially in the fashion industry, that more and more designers, brands and fashion houses establish new ways to collect models, ambassadors and public faces that challenge the traditional ideal of beauty by crossing gender, age, skin color, curves and shapes.
I also think there are some gender limits that will start to fade out this year. It has already started with Acne’s Jonny Johansson’s eleven year old son as campaign model for the Swedish fashion house women’s collection. Also, the transsexual supermodel Lea T has taken the fashion world by storm and last Louis Vuitton who chose Jaden Smith as their campaign model.
Diversity will be a buzzword- also when it comes to new markets. Dolce & Gabbana recently launched its first collection with hijabs and abayas, and is not alone in aiming for the market in the Middle East. I also believe that more designers and fashion houses will join the designer collaboration trend of “fashion for the people.” Last year’s Balmain for H&M is perhaps the most hyped design collaboration ever.
A similar way of democracy establishing in fashion, will also happen in an even greater extent when it comes to fashion weeks. You don’t longer need to be there to see the show – something provided by social media. In this way, the previously closed fashion weeks are open for everyone trough Twitter, Instagram and Snapchat, not to mention livsimilar way of democracy establishing in fashion, will also happen in an even greater extent when it comes to fashion weeks.
What colors do you believe in?
Color trends are in general affected by fashion trends, and this year it reflects the fact that the boundaries between gender is starting to blur out. Somewhat ironic that this year’s color are pink and blue. But the point is the combination of the colors, like in the transgender flag. We have already seen it on the catwalk by Louis Vuitton, Oskar de la Renta, Dior and Chanel, but also in the Dior campaign by Rihanna and Justin Bieber What Do You Mean- music video.
What will be this years hype?
I think 2016 will change the way we shop. On one side we got online shopping that is only getting bigger and forcing new digital solutions like online fitting rooms, interactive mirrors and not to mention shopping trough social media. On the other hand I think we will se a reaction to this where the personal shopping experience will stay strong.
What are you looking forward to?
I am really looking forward to Oslo Runway. The program is extremely strong, with both established designers and newcomers, not to mention that a number of high- end department stores endorses the event, each representing their own designer. This is clearly a good thing for Norwegian fashion, even though there is need for a more long-term commitment. There is no doubt that the initiators are one step closer to reaching their goal about gathering fashion-Norway and not to mention growing and stand out both nationally and internationally.
There is also a lot to look forward to internationally as well. 2015 was the year of the great designer-exits; Raf Simons said goodbye to Dior, Alber Elbaz in Lavin and Alexander Wang in Balenciaga. It will be exciting to see the next steps from the big fashion brands. There is a lot of excitement to Demna Gvasalias first collection for Balenciaga, what Lavin is going to do after Elbaz’ exit and if Kanye West will be the next creative director for Gap…
