Name: Sara Rostrup

Blog: http://www.youblush.com

What do you do: I am a professional makeup artist, official makeup artist for L’Oréal Paris in Norway and a beauty blogger

Based In: Copenhagen

You are Based in Copenhagen, but used to live In New York Tell us Your New York story: I went to NYC August 2008 with the mission to assist one of my favorite makeup artists, Gucci Westman. I was very determined and after knocking on a few doors and many emails later, I got to assist Gucci Westman during NYFW, already two weeks after I came to the city. I got on very well with her and was invited to her home after fashion week and drank wine with her and her husbond David Neville (partner of Rag&Bone). A few days later she called me up asking me to assist on a three day shoot for Vogue with photographer Annie Leibovitz. I could not believe it and was totally extatic. I love this about New York – every dream is possible. I was Gucci Westmans first assistant for one year and it’s been the best experience in my career.

How is it to do makeup backstage during New York Fashion Week? I love it! I absolutely love the energy and to learn from the best makeup artist in the industry. There are not really any courses to take as a professional makeup artists, so I invest in fashion weeks two times a year to learn new techniques and get the biggest kick of joy over my awasome job!

How did you Get The Job? I’ve been in contact with the bookers at the different agency for many months, giving them my CV and updating them on new work every week.

What shows are you doing? Untill now, nothing is confirmed since everything is last minute. But I have a lot of options for makeup artists like Charlotte Tilbury and Mark Carrasquillo.

Your personal beauty must haves? Concealer, mascara, a cream eyeshadow, cream blush, white and black kohl, a small mirror, some bobby pins and tons of lipproducts. This can help me from the most natural look to dramatic evening look.

Do you have a beauty trend forcast for 2016? This is so difficult, but I feel more color is coming, like blush and maybe a colored eyeliner or kohl. In a discret way, like Scandinavians prefer it.

Whats the hottest colors for fall for eyes, lips and nails? I love matte grey eyeshadow, a stained berry lip and dark bordeaux nails. And you can’t avoid the black graphic eyeliner.

Can you give us a secret to get the best glow? Eating healty comes first. You can’t eat crap food and have gorgeous skin. Such a cliche, but it’s true. Then you need good skincare, cleansing your skin is so important – every evening is a must, to get rid of all the dirt and the makeup. Then comes moisture. Great glow can’t shine through on dry skin. I will always prefer a moisturizing fluid foundation to even out the skintone and top it with a creamy highlighter to add shine to the cheekbones.

Models are natural beauties how can we normal people get a natural beauty look? Get your eyebrows plucked and colored by a professional. It really does wonders for your face and can give you a facelift effect. A more even skintone makes your face look younger and healthier, so use a light foundation and concealer to cover up dark cirkles and redness. Add a bit of color for your cheeks as well, for a fresh glow. I love the creamy ones that I just dab onto the apple of my cheeks.

If i only have five minutes to get ready - what beauty products should I go for? Concealer, always. Under and around your eyes to cover dark cirkles and on spots or redness abound nose and mouth. Brush through your eyebrows with a colored brow gel, add two coats of mascara. At last, dab on a creamy blush onto cheeks and lips.

Is less still more? Yes. Always!

Where do you drink your coffee in New York? In my hotel bed. I love staying at a hotel and start my morning off slowly by checking through my emails and updating the blog. I don’t really get the chance to that at home, since I have a very active toddler.

Where do go out for dinner? I can’t wait to visit ABC Kitchen again. It’s impossible to get a table, but the food is to die for and I managed to get an early seating since I booked like forever ago. It’s organic and like a farmers marked filled with fresh vegetables. Can’t wait.

Where do you buy your beauty essentials? I really love C.O Bigelows, New York’s oldest pharmacy in West Village. The store is managed by skilled staff from behind old and orignal glass counters filled with kult beautyproducts. I always chat with them to give me an update on the latest and hottest new brands. They tell the best stories and I always end up buying it all. I’m an easy target.
