A TALK WITH OLIVIER ROUSTEING

The Balmain x H&M collection will be having its debut tonight, strolling down the runway in New York. Envelope are attending the show, and Founder Celine Aagaard got to meet creative designer Olivier Rousteing for a little talk earlier today.

– I am so unbelievably proud! This has been the dream since I was little. I still remember when I stood in line to shop clothes from the design collaboration H&M had with Karl Lagerfeld, says creative director Olivier Rousteing to Envelope when we meet him in New York before the show of the collaboration Balmain x H&M.

He admits that the first fashion garments he can remember buying was a leather jacket from H&M.

– We are going to celebrate that tonight – and I promise that there will be surprises. It will be couture to the people, says Olivier who gets a lot of credit for being close to his fans through Instagram, where he also launched the collaboration.

– Instagram keeps me grounded, I get feedback from people I love and people I hate, Olivier admits to Envelope.

– Instagram is my contact with the real world and it is important to keep contact with the younger generation.

He is inspired by the pop culture and his own wardrobe is the inspiration behind the collection for both women and men.

– I wanted to share my favorites, this is also Balmain’s DNA, he explains.

– How was your style when you were young?

– I have been through most eras when it comes to fashion! I’ve had dreadlocks, worn flares, had hippie style and been Rock n Roll. Maybe that’s why I have kept back the pictures of me as a child, Olivier reveals exclusive to Envelope.no.
