The loafers are made for walking and have a long history.
The first loafers were developed in London back in 1847 as a country house shoe, for the Royal family. The Wildsmith loafers were designed for King George VI, as a casual house shoe a few years later, and then in 1908 the Norwegian shoemaker Nils G. Tveranger introduced his Aurland Moccasins. Norwegians began exporting them to Europe, and the moccasins were renamed loafers by a shoe brand in New Hampshire. The Gucci loafers were designed in 1966, with the iconic metal strap in the front, in the shape of a horse snaffle bit.
The lace free shoes are no longer just a house shoe, but has turned into a big trend on and off the fashion scene. The preppy loafers are worn by students, by business men around the world and by models and fashion icons.
The slip ons were all over the catwalk during Berlin Fashion Week, and the white Hien Le loafers got the most attention. I styled a pair for a photoshoot with photographer Manuel Pallhuber/ Hyped-Vision.
