Its all about black- and this weekend Tom Wood launch the limited Black Edition. Meet the Creative Director Mona Jensen- who only wears black.
This weekend you launch the Black Edition by Tom Wood. Tell us the story behind the limited edition. Why black? We’ve been talking about a black collection at Tom Wood for a long time now, and suddenly my Sales Director mentioned it once more and I responded "Let’s do it then". And we did. It’s fun to test out something new and to make the collection super limited. It’s a one time only project and it gives a new kind of energy into our collections.
How many pieces are made? It’s an exclusive drop with only a few number of pieces per style. For some styles I think we’ve only made 10 rings per size, spread between 13 stores.
Where do you find inspiration? Coming from Norway the minimalistic and functional approach have always inspired me. I try to build something meaningful in to each piece designed, something extra given to the one who owns it. Like the signet rings, the ID bracelet with a hidden room, the medallions and the bullet. They can be what they are; jewelry - or you can add something personal to it like a family crest, a secret message or a photo of someone dear.
The launch is at Yme in Oslo, where else can we buy it? Black Edition will be sold at selected stores in Norway and Denmark, at Goodhood in London, Excelsior in Milan and Edition in Japan. And in our online store, but we’ve only got one ring per size I think. That’s about it.
Is this a unisex collection? Yes, as many of the things we do. I believe men and women of today tend to like a lot of the same things.
Who do you design for? I try to design jewelry that people like myself might like to wear. I never wore any kind of jewelry before, only mens watches. To me jewelry is an accessory to be used to update an outfit, it should not take over the outfit and person inside. I like chunky and bold pieces, but they should be classic and everlasting.
Is there anyone in particular you woul like to see wearing your jewellery and clothes? I feel so honored and proud when normal people in the streets wear Tom Wood, but when buyers from the most influential stores internationally come to our showroom wearing Tom Wood, it is overwhelming.
